Samba Roots: An Afro-Brazilian Journey with Viver Brasil

Step into a vibrant evening of movement, music, and ancestral memory with Viver Brasil, Los Angeles’s premier Afro-Brazilian dance theater company. Renowned for its electrifying performances and deep cultural storytelling, Viver Brasil brings the rich traditions of Afro-Brazilian dance to life through powerful choreography, live percussion, and transformative stagecraft.

In this special performance, audiences will journey through the roots and rhythms of samba, exploring its spiritual lineage and celebratory spirit through dances inspired by orixá, forró, and bloco afro traditions. The evening features interdisciplinary artist and multi-modal healer Felicia “Onyi” Richards as lead vocalist and narrator, weaving song, story, and spirit into the performance’s energetic pulse.

A post-show conversation with the artists offers deeper insight into the cultural lineages, creative process, and lived experiences behind the work. This is more than a performance—it’s a portal into the living legacy of Afro-Brazilian resistance, joy, and ritual.

Swept Away: Love Letter to A Surrogate

This community-oriented art project aims to create a transcontinental heartbeat across America. In September 2022, 65 LA artists sent "love letters" to artists in Long Island who responded with live performances on East Hampton's Main Beach in October. On April 22 & 23, the 65 west coast artists will present their performances inspired by their East Coast counterparts' letters.

Swept Away is created and produced by Warren Neidich, Christina Strassfield, Anuradha Vikram, Renée Petropoulos, and Julie McKim. Presented by 18th Street Arts Center and Guild Hall in East Hampton, and made possible with support from Art of Recovery, a City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs initiative, and Annenberg Community Beach House.

This performance will be held on Santa Monica State Beach in the area in front of the Annenberg Community Beach House.

ONYI LOVE to perform with and in support of Iya Catherine Scoti Scott presenting and conducting a cleansing.

This is a free event, and open to all. No RSVP needed.

For more information visit: Swept Away: Love Letter to a Surrogate
