I went to see Onyi to support my partner of almost 4 years who had been suffering with severe emotional pain due to a broken connection with his primary caretaker - his mother. He wanted me by his side but I understood this was his journey.
As I stayed in a separate and Onyi started the ritual, I felt this immense energy covering every cell of my body. It was the most calm I've been in years. The singing of Onyi's feminine melody pierced into pieces of me that were lost. She indirectly affected me while she continued the ritual with my partner.
I felt the innocence of my childhood. My mind connected to deepest parts that were lost. My curiosity, my adventurous side, my pure innocence.
As the ritual progressed, I transformed and transcended into a meditative state that morphed my existence to nature. I was a bird flying to sky as I dove to water and transformed into a fish. From being a fish, I morphed and melted into the water. I floated back into the sky by evaporation and I became clouds. This transformation lasted all through the ritual.
I became nature. It reminded me that we are connected. When we die, we live because we are always transforming.
I was so scared all my life. Now, I felt peace. Even the thought of death didn't bother me anymore. Onyi affected me in such a profound way even though this ritual was not for me. Her feminine energy is so pure that it connected back to mother earth. I am forever grateful for living this long and have the privilege to experience this moment.
