Track 7: The Road with Eṣu

A personal reflection on my relationship with Eṣu, the Oriṣa (deity within the Yorùbá traditional system), expressed over singing bowls, bells, sticks, and shakers.

This track, along with tracks #1, #3, and #5, serves as a connective thread throughout the album—invoking the feeling of prayer, meditation, and dedication.

In selecting these interspersed pieces, I sought sounds that could unite the album’s energies. The resonant tones of metal singing bowls, bells, and other instruments create immersive mini sound baths that invite deep healing and presence.

Though I was introduced to singing bowls only a few years ago, their vibrations immediately resonate throughout my being, awakening a profound sense of familiarity. While I usually sing live over them in real time during events, pairing these instruments with spoken word for this album felt more fitting. The words were recorded after the instrumentation, without the music as a reference, allowing both elements to blend naturally and synchronistically.

The interplay between my voice and the instrumentation is a beautiful dance of structure and chaos; warmth and coolness; moving inward yet expanding outward. This balance is the essence of the healing intention behind these tracks.

Though these pieces share qualities with interludes due to their length, they stand as distinct entities, each holding its own energy and healing purpose. Together, they seal the intention of this album: to soothe the soul.
