Track 3: Ogun Breakthrough
A reflective meditation on my personal connection with Ogun, the Orisa (deity within the Yorùbá traditional system), carried over a soothing soundscape of metal singing bowls, bells, sticks, and shakers.
This track — along with tracks #1, #5, and #7 — was designed to bridge the album with prayerful, meditative moments that unify the overall journey.
When choosing these interludes, I sought sounds that evoke a sense of sacred dedication and deep connection. The resonant tones of singing bowls, bells, and percussive instruments create rich mini sound baths that invite relaxation and spiritual attunement.
Though I was introduced to singing bowls only a few years ago, their vibrations instantly strike a familiar chord within me. While I often sing live over these instruments during events, for this album, I chose to pair them with spoken word reflections. The vocal recordings were laid down separately, without musical reference, allowing the words and instrumentation to blend spontaneously and beautifully.
The interplay between voice and sound forms a delicate dance of structure and chaos; warmth and coolness; turning inward while simultaneously expanding outward. This dynamic embodies the ultimate balance and healing.
While these tracks could be considered interludes due to their length, each one is a unique entity with its own energy and healing intention. Together, they help seal the album’s purpose: to soothe the soul.
