Track 1: Egun (Ancestor) Prayer
A heartfelt prayer of gratitude, honor, and reverence dedicated to the Egun (Ancestors in the Yorùbá language), gently carried over a soundscape of metal singing bowls, bells, sticks, and shakers.
This track — along with others like #3, #5, and #7 — serves as a connective thread throughout the album, weaving prayerful, meditative moments that unify the listening experience.
When selecting these pieces to bridge the songs, I sought sounds that would evoke both sacred intention and deep connection. The shimmering tones of singing bowls and bells create rich mini sound baths that invite relaxation and spiritual attunement.
Though I was introduced to singing bowls only a few years ago, their resonance immediately strikes a familiar chord within me. While I often sing live over these instruments during events, for this album, I chose to pair them with spoken word, allowing my voice to weave independently through the sonic textures. The vocals were recorded separately, without musical reference, and the result is a beautiful, synchronous blend of voice and instrumentation.
The interplay between spoken word and sound creates a dynamic balance — structure and spontaneity, warmth and coolness, turning inward reflection and expansive outward energy. This dance embodies the essence of healing through sound.
Though these tracks could be considered interludes due to their length, each stands as its own unique entity with specific healing intention. Together, they anchor the album’s core purpose: to soothe and uplift the soul.
