Warring Within, Warring Without, Heart

Photographs by Chris Anthony

Introduction

I created this first for myself, as one of several ways to contend with what I am feeling and seeing.

I created this for those who are seeking support as we directly experience or witness acts of war, genocide, displacement, oppression, systemic violence, and other atrocities across the world.

I created this for all of humanity, whom I love deeply.

And I created this to help us collectively shift toward a version of Earth where such a creation is not, nor has it ever been, necessary.

Invitation

This is a 7-part reflection, meditation, ritual, and practice. It will bring things up across your entire being—some of which may escape your awareness, and some of which may surprise you. Take the time you need with it—and let that look however you choose.

There is no right or wrong. In fact, questioning—and even letting go of—that binary may itself support your unfolding.

Part 1

Place your right hand on your heart and left hand on your head. Read the following silently or out loud (I strongly encourage the latter if you have the ability to do so):

I send prayers, peace, and sweetness to the spirits of all those who have lost their lives—and continue to lose them—in [fill in the blank however you choose], because humanity is still working through its negativity.

I send condolences to your immediate families and loved ones as they experience the anguish of losing you, and the spectrum of emotions generated by what continues to occur.

I send condolences to our collective species as we all contend with beliefs about separateness that lead us to turn our back on, create space for, and in other ways perpetuate these atrocities.

As you join the ancestral realms, I pray that you collectively illuminate the truth that we the living already know what actions to take in order to change our behavior.

As we remember your lives, may we dig deep and remember our humanity.

May we recognize that we know better, and stop feigning ignorance.

May we not blind ourselves with sorrow and hatred; instead, may we surrender to a love and hope that remembers we’re all in this together.

May your deaths not be in vain; rather, may they ignite true and powerful transformation for the collective good once and for all.

Take 3 sets of intentional, deep, slow breaths.
Touch your head to the ground for 3 seconds.
Take another set of 3 intentional, deep, slow breaths.

And as your breath settles, allow yourself to carry this prayer forward, applying it to the many faces of conflict we see in our world today.

Part 2

After you have said, read, reflected upon and in any other ways engaged with the above, work with it again, this time applying it to any other situation occurring today. For additional expansion, select a region that appears to be the most remote in relation to you (regardless of the reason).

There are an abundance of situations to choose from. This is the truth of the many dimensions we are experiencing and witnessing that are colliding right now.

We don’t change the world; we change ourselves and move to a version of Earth that reflects that which we say we prefer [as described by Bashar]. The fact that we are experiencing or witnessing something is evidence that we have the opportunity to learn from and grow through it. We get to make different choices; and stepping into our courage to do so is a reflection and reminder to others that they have the permission too as well.

If you skipped or rushed through Part 1, I encourage you to go back and read—really take your time with it—in case it is showing you something about yourself that you get to alchemize in this moment. The time is ripe and fertile for metamorphosis.

Part 3

In this fertile ground, we are invited to ask ourselves some deeper questions:

What are we fighting for?

Is it for breakthrough that supports ALL?

Is it for peace that supports ALL?

Is it for understanding that supports ALL?

What is the purpose of fighting when the result continues to be a loss of joy and life for ALL?

The actions of one or a few on any side that take only themselves into consideration are exhausting our collective spirit. We are literally snuffing ourselves out.

We are all one.

We are each other’s reflection.

Our actions affect each other at some point, in some way, in all directions, within and outside of ourselves.

The outside is the inside—there is no actual separation.

The attachment one side maintains to instant soothing and gratification is detrimental to all of us—all parts affect the whole.

The buck has to stop somewhere.

Someone has to be a true warrior and reflect that fighting from a pure heart breaks through the corruption.

Someone has to be a true hunter and reflect that we can achieve a goal that supports and sustains all through patience, proper tracking, and knowing the right action to take at the appropriate time.

Someone has to step into the role of an integrated planter and harvester. Deep transformation comes from recognizing that through awareness, dedication, and intention, the most negative of situations can give rise to positive outcomes.

I send prayers to all of us as we continue to work out our inner conflicts.

I send prayers to all of us that we stop projecting them onto others.

May we give up the forms of corrupted fighting we engage in, come together, and work toward collective breakthrough, justice, peace, and understanding.

Part 4

To support us in embodying this truth, let us turn to the medicine of sound and story.

Part 5

Watch and listen while breathing slowly, deeply, and easefully.

Part 6

Now, with your heart open and your body attuned, continue with movement—clearing, shaking, and grounding in joy as you listen.

Listen while engaging in movement. Alternate between steps of clearing, breakthrough, moving forward, and being in joy. Be creative and allow your body to flow uninhibited.

Part 7

And when you feel complete with the movement, return once more to stillness. Place your right hand on your heart and left hand on your head. Read the following silently or out loud (I strongly encourage the latter if you have the ability to do so):

I look forward to a future/version of Earth where we hold our hands together and move forward with and in joy and peace.
