“The Path to Finding Me” documentary about Onyi

The documentary Onyi: The Path to Finding Me by the 2019 cohort of Girl's’ Voices Now.

Synopsis: The media often portrays unrealistic standards that damage self-esteem and confidence of those who do not meet “ideal” beauty standards. This film focuses on Onyi, who, despite the pressures of society, is unapologetically herself.

In the summer of 2019, Women's Voices Now led a 5-week intensive documentary filmmaking training, called GIRLS' VOICES NOW. Twelve femme-identifying students, ages 14-18, participated in this program hosted at Mount Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles, California. This film is one of the three short social-change documentaries made during the training.

Film makers: Tamara Sims, Elissa Fong, Brigette Barrales
