November 2023 Update

Happy November!

Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all of your bodies, hearts, minds, and spirits. Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all corners of the Earth, as human beings within those corners, along the perimeters, and at every point on the planet decide which ideas, words, and actions they prefer, will align with, continue, and transform. Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all souls that have been transitioning out and in during these times. Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all individuals connected to the departed as they move through their grief and loss. Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all individuals and groups facing and/or perpetuating negativity in a spectrum of ways. Sending prayers, sweetness and peace to all of humanity—we are all in this together, regardless of our ideas of separateness.

As I continue to observe everything within and outside of me (the two are one and the same…reflections of each other), I sit in gratitude. While I don’t prefer the devastation—loss of life, destruction of land, loss of property, cowardice, propaganda, polarity, and so forth—I am not taking for granted the vast opportunities we have right now to really make a declaration as to what we will not longer accept. I am seeing (and looking forward to seeing) how we [intend to] show up for ourselves, each other, our ancestors, future generations, and our shared home.

Part of me showing up, is really surrendering to my role as one who engages with and heals through sonic vibration and other tools. One who understands on a deep level the precise timing of when it is required, even if on the surface it doesn’t appear as such.

One example that reminds me of this, and helps me reframe perspectives that I held in the past about my voice, music, and healing work is my newest album. If you haven't already listened to it, I encourage you to do so…allow it to really sit with and transform you from the inside out.

I’ve made a decision to keep the level of detail and amount of description I provide about the music (process, transcriptions, translations, etc.) to a minimum for the time being. Even though I have a lot of information to share, right now I am more curious to see how it lands with people without that input from me. Once it’s time for me to share it all, I know it will open the door for opportunities to see the music in a whole new light.

What I will share with you (newsletter/mailing list subscribers) now, is that I moved through doubt around releasing the music when I did. After news broke out about Hama’s attack on the Israeli music festival and the kidnappings, and the Israeli government’s subsequent decisions (with the support of the US government and others) which continue to rain devastation on the Palestinian people, Gaza and beyond, I considered the optics of the timing given part of the collective’s focus on the suffering of this part of the world. [Re]new[ed] focus on the ongoing challenges of other parts of the world added to my postponement considerations.

I caught a post by a fellow artist—whose new music release was scheduled for a couple weeks ahead of mine—within which they announced they were maintaining their date at the risk of being seen as “insensitive.” Music, they described, has always been a source of healing for them. They felt as though that contribution was necessary now. I was struck by this post. My curiosity was focused on what prompted them to make it. Had they been called out for insensitivity now or in the past? Did they imagine they would be called out based on what we’ve seen in the past? Were they themselves feeling a certain way by not appearing to focus on the challenges occurring in specific regions?

The above made me sit with the following…

• Many imagine that multiple truths can’t exist simultaneously

• Many require others to co-sign their emotions, feelings and perspective; and will shun, ostracize, or in other ways “leave” them if they don’t

• The idea or reflection of joy (or any other positive emotion) is seen as an affront by many who are experiencing or witnessing the opposite(s)

• We are all moving through various challenges and emotions about a lot of things right now and could benefit from having grace with ourselves and others, while still maintaining connection to our truths.

While a part of me considered shifting my release date, the other parts (and other voices) said to stay the course. [My] spirit was encouraging me to release the music exactly when I had decided. I had done divinations well over a month before to determine the best timing, and October 27 was consistently a yes over other possible dates. I had assumed this date beat out earlier ones because it gave me more time to prepare and execute my promotion plan. I also assumed the date beat out later ones because it was about time! This music has literally been done since early 2022 (the composer and producer, Tristan de Liège, and I began working on it in 2020, if not 2019). I figured it was just one more reminder to stop procrastinating.

However, as events continue(d) to escalate throughout parts of the world—and/or our attention and focus on them continues to intensify—a higher level of me has recognized that the date I chose in fact fell within perfect timing. FORÍBALẸ̀ needed to be out when it came out—no sooner, no later, for me and for it (as an entity that has a life outside of me).

Those who resonate with the music and are attuned to the frequencies—embedded within it through my voice, the composition, the production, the lyrics, and the absolute intention and attention with which all of it and more was created—absolutely need it right now.

Since the scariest thing for me was to stay the course, keep the date, and face possible backlash or low visibility, I chose to move in that direction. My action not only gave this music the opportunity to continue doing the work it came to do at a crucial time, but also supported me in maintaining my commitment to doing my work regardless of what others (and parts of my own mind) think.

I didn’t plan on writing all of the above. In fact, I was going to give a brief update and share about prayer as a powerful tool for breakthrough. It absolutely is, and I encourage you to utilize it in general and in/with community whenever and as often as possible.

In surrendering to what needed to be written in this moment, I honor the energy speaking through me right now. The message that being who we truly are and doing what comes to us to do from our integrity and awareness—even if/when faced with uncertainty, misunderstanding, and judgement—is a powerful tool and reflection. In times of polarizing viewpoints, tragedy, heightened emotions/feelings, conflict, negative actions, and so forth, being our true selves is transformative and radical in all directions.
